Power Board Safety

Regardless of which power board you opt for, there are some basic rules that should be observed when using power boards of any kind.

These include:

  • Making sure you don’t exceed the maximum power board rating (10 amps) by plugging in too many amp-hungry appliances at once (such as toasters, hair dryers and heaters).
  • Never piggy-backing double adaptors on power boards or plugging one power board into another.
  • Checking power boards regularly for scorching or discolouration and replacing them immediately if such marks are discovered.
  • Making sure there is adequate ventilation around power boards to guard against over-heating.
  • Always turning off power boards at the wall outlet if they are not being used for any length of time.
  • Never attempting to fix a power board yourself.
  • If it is damaged, either take it to a licensed electrician or discard it and buy a new one.
